I've heard it said that a Christian shouldn't be deceptive. I fully agree! However, using tricks as object lessons and fun entertainment is nothing different than seeing "The Chronicles of Narnia" while getting lost in the story line and discovering the deeper meaning of Aslan.
Sure, we keep the secrets, but we tell the truth! We NEVER claim to have supernatural powers. We never will ask you to let your minds wander into a world of make-believe. We'll use cleverly disguised props, secret moves (sleight-of-hand), gimmicks and tricks to illustrate truths from the Word of God.
In EVERY show, I will make the following statement (within 3-4 minutes of walking on stage):
"Whenever you hear me say the word, 'Magic', understand that there is no such thing as real magic. Everything you see us do has some sort of secret move, sleight-of-hand, gimmick or a trick. We believe in miracles, but we don't perform them. Only God performs miracles. We are told that we are supposed to forgive each other, but only Jesus can heal a broken heart. Amen?!"
Jesus told Peter to take a coin out of a fish's mouth. God appeared on Mt. Sanai to Moses in the form of a burning bush. A dark cloud "levitated" over the mountain - at God's control. Moses turned a staff into a snake. The Red Sea was parted. Jesus turned water into wine and multiplied a few loaves of bread and some fish to feed the masses. And of course, we all know the story of Jesus and Peter walking on water - one more than the other!
Jesus was the Living Water to the woman at the well. He was the Bread of Life - and still is. So many illustrations, so many miracles.

Isn't it deception?
